Inspiration
I had way too much time on my hands during quarantine and I wanted to do something hands-on to fill up my time. I discovered that a local volunteer group was making hand sewn face masks so I joined to learn how to use a sewing machine and help a good cause. I ended up making 900+ reusable masks to donate to those in need.
Building Process
Developed a streamlined process to manufacture reusable, hand-sewn face masks using a sewing machine, with an average production time of 5 minutes per mask.
Steps:
1. Cut fabric to predefined dimensions.
2. Stitch edges to form a double-layer for better filtration and comfort.
3. Attach elastic ear straps for secure fitting.
4. Incorporate pleats to improve contouring around the face.
5. Iron the completed masks to eliminate wrinkles and sterilize the fabric.
